Considering the interplay between Big Data, personal information… Considering the interplay between Big Data, personal information and privacy on the internet: Do you think the current privacy laws in Australia are sufficient to prevent companies such as Facebook (which owns Instagram and Whatsapp), Amazon or Google from monetising and politicising personal information uploaded on internet platforms; andShould any additional restrictions be placed on Big Tech to minimise the opportunity for them to use an individual’s personal data against their own interests (and without their explicit knowledge)? For example, should Facebook place disclaimers on its platform stating that it has claimed rights to your personal data, and that your personal data may be used to show you ‘targeted advertising’ on Facebook or third party websites, including showing you curated content sponsored by a political party?
