It is not surprising that alcohol is a popular recreational substanceamong adolescents. Ignoring its legality for a moment, consider the fact that 17-20% of all the alcohol produced is used by adolescents under the age of 21. A popular myth holds that in countries with lower drinking ages, child or adolescent alcohol use disorders are less prevalent than they are in the United States (Kantrowitz, Underwood, Wingert, Kliff, & Eady, 2007). However, there is little evidence to support this belief, and an emerging body of evidence suggests just the opposite. s : 1.
